A life cut short.

This morning I found out someone I know passed away yesterday at the very young age of 31.   My heart goes out to her loved ones, I hope they find the strength to get through this very hard time.

To everyone else, cherish those that you love as you never know how long they (or you) will be here.

It's beginning to look a lot like Xmas...

...and our place smells of the divine Xmas tree we have up.  Brought from a tree farm @ Beveridge just outside of Melbourne, it's 7ft of gorgeous-ness!  Thanks goes out to J & A for the long drive out to purchase this handsome specimen and deliver it to our door ... you guys rock!   I have many fond memories as a kid going searching for the "perfect" tree down along the railway line, out to Tonimbuk, or wherever Dad thought he had spied some good looking sorts.  Of course it was illegal to cut down trees even back then so we usually done it around dawn, jumping out of the car with the axe and saw, chopping it down as quickly as we could, stuffing it in the vehicle and racing off before anyone saw us.  It was thrilling and terrifying all the same time.  I LOVED it!

I should update and advise that, sadly, we did not make it to Daylesford on the weekend.  My fault for not being motivated at an earlier hour on Sat morn ... we will do it one weekend very soon and I'll be sure to have pics of our meal @ Chowder House.

We did however make it out for a late brunch on Sat, just to Nth Melbourne though.  It was probably close to 12.30 when we left home so young M was already tired and we were a bit dubious of how he might go.  We planned to go to Auction Rooms on Errol St in Nth Melbourne but the place was packed with a young and hip looking crowd and we didn't dare risk a scene with the tired M, so ended up at a much quietier cafe further up Errol called Cafe Krifi.  To be fair, M was an angel despite his tiredness and the food at Cafe Krifi was more than passable ... especially for a couple of Mum's who don't get out to cafes all that often anymore.  The smokey flavour of the tomatoes with my big brekky was particularly good, as was the home made baked beans with K's vegie breakfast.  M's fruit toast left us vowing to both get it if we ever returned ...delicious!

My big brekky ...

Numero Uno Posting

Who can believe we'll all be sitting down to a hearty Christmas lunch this time next week ...I can't!  2009 has flown by in a blur of soggy napppies, dull days at work, gorgeous smiles from M, interrupted sleeps, and some fabulous food.  I also discovered I like gin ... a lot!!  My thanks goes out to DC from work for this discovery.  I must also extend thanks to KG, DW & RS for being free and easy with their work credit cards down at the local work drinks haunt, and letting us indulge in some yummy Hendricks ... I just wish I could afford to stock this in my own (very limited) alcohol stash at home.   P.S.  Cucumber is the way to go!!

Rumor has it there will be Wii competitions in the office next week.  I'm a little competitive so me thinks I'll be honing my tennis skills this weekend to ensure victory will be mine.  Mwah ha ha ha.

Waiting for K to confirm we can go for a drive out to Daylesford tomorrow to check out a property I would love to buy and set up as a B & B ... yes, I'm dreaming! ...but what fun is life without dreaming a little.  Hopefully K will allow me to indulge.  We'll go to our fave cafe in Hepburn for brunch if we end up going, it's called Chowder House ... super delicious, fattening and superb service.  Sadly, the business is for sale so we need to have a little brekky splurge before it's sold and the boys are no longer running it.
Click here for Chowder House location and details ... Eat up!

Do yourself a favour and get along to Chowder House before it's sold!
